Protecting Children and Youth

I love children and youth.  I love being around them and sharing in their pure love, happiness and goodness, “…for of such is the kingdom of God.” (Luke 18:16)

However, there are some people in this world who may seek to interact inappropriately with our innocent little ones.  At all times, our children need to feel safe and protected from harm.  As leaders, teachers (and friends) of our little ones, we should follow the Savior’s example of love and concern for the safety of our children (Luke 18:15-17).  Jesus Christ expects us to do all we can to prevent abuse, and to protect and help those who may have already been victims of abuse.  In the Lord’s Church (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), there is no tolerance for abuse in any form. Abuse violates the laws of God and may also be a violation of the laws of society.

Jesus Christ Himself, our Eternal Savior and Redeemer, has clearly taught and demonstrated the perfect example of how to love and protect our little ones:

“And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.  But Jesus called them unto him, and said, suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.  Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.”  Luke 18:15-17
