A Prophet’s Testimony of The Book of Mormon

In April 2017, less than a year before his death (2 Jan 2018), President Thomas S. Monson delivered a powerful and inspiring personal testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ, of His Gospel, and of the importance of reading the Book of Mormon each day! President Monson maintained that “…a strong testimony of our Savior and of His gospel, will help see us through to safety in these last days.”  In addition, President Monson spoke of …the power of the Book of Mormon and the critical need we have as members of this Church …to study, ponder, and apply its teachings in our lives. The importance of having a firm and sure testimony of the Book of Mormon cannot be overstated.

“We live in a time of great trouble and wickedness. What will protect us from the sin and evil so prevalent in the world today?  I maintain that a strong testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and of His gospel, will help see us through to safety. If you are not reading the Book of Mormon each day, please do so.  If you will read it prayerfully and with a sincere desire to know the truth, the Holy Ghost will manifest its truth to you. If it is true—and I solemnly testify that it is—then Joseph Smith was a prophet who saw God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.

“Because the Book of Mormon is true, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s Church on the earth, and the holy priesthood of God has been restored for the benefit and blessing of His children.

If you do not have a firm testimony of these things, do that which is necessary to obtain one.  It is essential for you to have your own testimony in these difficult times, for the testimonies of others will carry you only so far. However, once obtained, a testimony needs to be kept vital and alive through continued obedience to the commandments of God and through daily prayer and scripture study.

“My dear associates in the work of the Lord, I implore each of us to prayerfully study and ponder the Book of Mormon each day.  As we do so, we will be in a position to hear the voice of the Spirit, to resist temptation, to overcome doubt and fear, and to receive heaven’s help in our lives. I so testify with all my heart in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
President Thomas S. Monson

“The Book of Enoch”

The Book of Enoch

The Prophet Enoch was the seventh Patriarch/Prophet from Adam. He was the Son of Jared, and father of Methuselah (Gen. 5:18–24Luke 3:37Heb. 11:5). The biblical account of Enoch is scanty. It tells us that he was translated but gives nothing of the details of his ministry. A quotation from his prophecy is found in Jude 1:14. From latter-day revelation we learn much more of Enoch; specifically of his preaching, his city called Zion, his visions, and his prophecies. See D&C 107:48–57Moses 6–7. From these sources we observe that he was a preacher of righteousness and a vigorous exponent of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We also note that not only Enoch but also his entire city was translated. We also become aware that Enoch was a much greater person with a far more significant ministry than one would ever suppose from the Bible alone.

There are at least three apocalyptic works purporting to be books of Enoch; these are included in the category usually called “pseudepigrapha,” meaning writings under assumed names, compiled long after the time of the supposed author. On the basis of latter-day revelation, it appears there are some truths contained in the apocalyptic Enoch books. See also Pseudepigrapha.

“The Dead Sea Scrolls”

In early 1947, three shepherds belonging to the Ta‘amireh Bedouin were searching for a stray animal. One of them threw a rock into a cave and heard an earthen jar break. When they entered the cave, they saw it contained several large clay jars, some of which held scrolls.  In the ensuing years, Bedouin and archaeologists found several hundred scrolls in 11 caves on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea.  Most of the scrolls were written in Hebrew or Aramaic on parchment, although a few Greek texts have been found as well. They apparently constituted the expansive canon of scripture belonging to the people who resided at the discovery site ensuing years. Bedouin and archaeologists found several hundred scrolls in 11 caves on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea. (The actual name of the site is Qumran (after the name of the nearby wadi or dry streambed).

Many scholars believe that the Dead Sea Scrolls are the greatest archaeological discovery of the 20th century. The scrolls provide an ancient library of more than 900 texts, most of them written in the original Hebrew of the Old Testament. About 225 of the scrolls contain the oldest copy of the Old Testament (except for the book of Esther), which is more than 1,000 years older than the copies used during the Middle Ages. Most of the scrolls date between 150 B.C. and A.D. 68, although some texts date as far back as the third century B.C.

In addition to traditional biblical texts, the Dead Sea Scrolls also include the Temple Scroll (describing a temple to be built in Jerusalem and the ideal covenant society). the War Scroll (describing the end-of-days conflict), and texts parallel to the Bible (such as the books of Enoch, Noah, Melchizedek, and the testaments of Jacob, Judah, and Levi). Little is known about Enoch in the Bible, but in the scrolls, Enoch is a major character—a mighty prophet with special gifts.

“What is in and Beyond our Universe?”

A very interesting presentation!  However, this audio-video subject goes well beyond my limited ability to fully understand the vastness of the known universe, nor what lies beyond.  Astrophysicists (much smarter and wiser than me) have studied these things, applied their scientific findings, and postulated what exists beyond the probable/known edge of our universe.  Their findings are well studied, well organized, and well thought out.  The video presentation here is very intriguing, and the graphic images are amazing.  This is a brilliant presentation based on amazing scientific studies, and accompanied by great supporting graphics.

However, from my religious perspective, I do not subscribe completely to the so called “Big Bang Theory.”  In our premortal existence (before our physical birth into this life), God our Eternal Heavenly Father (aka Elohim), and His Beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ (aka Jehovah), planned and created the Heavens, the Universe, and the Earth we live on.  I believe all mankind, born on this Earth, were first born spiritually, as begotten sons and daughters of God, our Eternal Heavenly Father, in our pre-existent life.  We were spiritually born of our Heavenly Father.  And subsequently, all mankind have been born “physically” on this Earth to our Earthly Parents.

The Largest Known Star in our Universe!

Our “Red Supergiant”

The largest known Star in our Universe is so massive that it makes our own Sun look microscopic in comparison.  For context, our own Sun is 1.4 Million KM in Diameter, and 1.3 Million planet Earths could fit within it.  Although 1.3 million seems like an enormous number, it is only a tiny percentile of the amount of suns that could fit within the largest star in our Universe.  This giant star is named “Stevenson 2-18”, and it has a diameter of 3 Billion KMs.

This enormous star is referred to as a “Red Supergiant” and is about 1,815, 000.000 miles in diameter.  In comparison, our own Sun is 865, 000 miles in diameter and 1.3 million Planet Earths can fit within our Sun.

Stevenson 2-18 has a diameter of 3 Billion KMs and it can fit 9.9 billion Suns within this giant star.
